Introduction

EMRTS (EMR Technical Solutions, LLC), a consulting firm established in 2006 that specializes in the MMIS (Medicaid Management Information System) sector, provides technical guidance and strategic expertise to organizations that are either operating in or planning to enter the MMIS market. The company focuses on delivering MMIS-as-a-Service solutions to support state healthcare systems. Throughout my internship, I worked alongside experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds in healthcare information, data analysis, application development and systems management, gaining valuable exposure to real-world applications in the healthcare technology domain.

Internship Experience and Description

In this internship, I contributed to multiple projects of varying scope and complexity, ranging from small, focused tasks to large, multi-stage applications. We worked both independently and as part of a team. My responsibilities included data analysis and forecasting, healthcare information application/webpage development on both front-end and back-end components, and testing, allowing me to gain hands-on experience across the full development lifecycle.

We utilized a range of technical tools and environments, including Python, R, PostgreSQL, continuously learning and improving new technical skills throughout the internship. In addition to technical work, we prepared progress updates and reports to document outcomes and support decision-making. Daily meetings were held for us to communicate project progress, discussed challenges, and shared solutions. These discussions strengthened my collaboration and communication skills and provided opportunities to learn from both peers and senior professionals. At the same time, Mr. Counts created an encouraging atmosphere for us and provided us with abundant materials to study.

Conclusion

Overall, this internship significantly enhanced my technical and analytical capabilities while providing meaningful exposure to real-world healthcare software and data challenges. The guidance from senior engineers, combined with hands-on project experience, strengthened my confidence and prepared me for future work in technology and programming-related fields. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow professionally during my time at EMRTS.
