Internship Reveiw
During the summer of 2026, I had the opportunity to intern at EMR Technical Solutions (EMRTS). As a Master of Public Health student at Yale University, this internship allowed me to gain experience in healthcare technology projects while developing my communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Valuable Aspects
One of the most valuable aspects of this internship was the opportunity to take on a team coordination role. I worked closely with my supervisor to organize meetings, communicate with other interns, follow up on project progress, and help ensure that everyone stayed aligned with their responsibilities. This experience helped me understand the importance of effective communication and teamwork in managing collaborative projects.
I also appreciated the opportunity to work with interns from different academic and technical backgrounds. Through our discussions and collaboration, I gained a better understanding of healthcare data management, particularly through projects involving Medicaid provider exclusion data. Although my primary responsibilities focused on coordination, I learned a lot from observing how different team members approached technical challenges and worked together to find solutions.
Most importantly, this internship helped me become more confident in taking initiative, managing responsibilities, and communicating with others in a professional environment.
Complaints
Overall, I had a positive internship experience, but I believe the onboarding process could be improved. A more structured introduction to the internship, including clearer guidelines about project goals, individual responsibilities, expected deliverables, and
timelines, would help new interns better understand what they are expected to accomplish.
Providing a detailed onboarding guide or project overview at the beginning could also help interns get started more efficiently, reduce confusion, and make the transition into their roles smoother.
Summary
Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to intern at EMRTS. This experience allowed me to develop practical skills beyond the classroom, particularly in team coordination, communication, and project management. It also gave me a broader understanding of how collaboration contributes to the success of healthcare technology projects.
I sincerely appreciate my supervisor, Verbus, for his guidance and trust, as well as my fellow interns for their collaboration and support. I look forward to applying what I have learned to my future career in public health and healthcare analytics.
